Joy Lawn

Joy Lawn has appeared in a professional capacity as a conference presenter for the past ten years. She advises schools and other groups on CYA literature, in which she holds an MA. Joy is extremely active in her roles within both the Children’s Book Council of Australia (Qld) as judge, and the CBCA National Conference Committee. Her two books of teacher notes, Inside the Shortlist 2007 and 2008, are published by CBCA(Qld) for national distribution and she has been the educational consultant on a very successful natural history series.

Joy reviews for the major CYA Australian literature journals, including Magpies and Viewpoint, and writes teacher notes for Curriculum Corporation. She is fascinated by ideas and images and how authors and illustrators, and others in the arts and elsewhere, express these with truth and originality. Her vision is to see CYA literature, including graphic novels (narrative art), further recognised in the wider community.
