Date of Success:

Sheryl is a Queensland children’s author. Her first adventure novel, Secrets of Eromanga (2006) was set on an outback fossil dig. Since then, her horror story, Corn Dolly Dead was included in black dog books’ Short & Scary anthology; she was awarded a May Gibbs’ Children’s Literature Trust Fellowship and in 2010, Sheryl achieved her second Australian Society of Authors Mentorship.

Princess Clown, her new chapter book with Blake Publishing, is out now.

Another chapter book, Charlie and the Red Hot Chilli Pepper (Pearson Australia) will be released soon. It will be launched at the CYA Hatchlings Conference on 5th September 2010.

WHAT CYA CONFERENCE DID FOR ME

I wouldn’t miss attending the CYA Conference every year and love helping out as a volunteer too. This unique conference for children's writers and illustrators is a brilliant concept and gets bigger and better all the time.

Last year, I entered Princess Clown in the junior fiction section of the 2009 CYA writing competition. It won 2nd Prize. Winning a prize in the CYA Writing Competition with Princess Clown made me more confident about its appeal to children (and publishers).

Low and behold, a few weeks after the conference, Blake Publishing emailed me with the good news that they loved Princess Clown and wanted to publish it. It has just been released as an illustrated chapter book in Blake's Gigglers Blue series.
