Laura (she/her) works as an editorial assistant at Melbourne-based publishing house Affirm Press. She has a Master’s in Creative Writing, Editing and Publishing from the University of Melbourne. She oversees managing and assessing unsolicited submissions to Affirm Press, and has also written many freelance manuscript assessments.
Laura is passionate about working on manuscripts regardless of genre and is as comfortable with literary fiction as she is with sci-fi. She approaches manuscript assessments like a team sport, warmly and enthusiastically providing honest, constructive feedback.
Laura is largely looking for manuscripts that will appeal to broad commercial audiences, such as typical crime/thriller/women's fiction, but is also open to manuscripts that are a little more niche and unique so long as they have a strong hook.
Laura is only looking for manuscripts that fit the genres she has listed, and within that, mostly interested in commercial fiction rather than niche subgenres. She is not looking for memoir.
