Lucy Bell is a freelance editor with more than 10 years’ in-house experience at Pantera Press. She also has a Master of Publishing degree from the University of Sydney. Before her move to freelancing, Lucy most recently held positions as Senior Editor and Managing Editor.
Lucy is across all areas of the publishing business and has knowledge of how PR, marketing and sales inform publishers’ decisions about whether to acquire a manuscript and how targeting the right audience is an essential part of the editing process. She has worked with numerous best-selling and award-winning Australian authors, and has substantial experience developing manuscripts, from structural editing to copyediting and proofreading. She’s able to balance big-picture developmental editing with meticulous details.
Along with managing and training a team of editors, Lucy also acted as a publisher, acquiring books and curating her own list of authors. Lucy is passionate about making books the best they can be, and prides herself on her attention to detail, reliability, and author care and satisfaction. She’s also the author of award-winning children’s book You Can Change the World.
Lucy is looking at all adult fiction and non-fiction, YA and middle-grade. She has a particular interest in commercial women's fiction and crime, but she loves anything with a great story, strong voice, relatable characters and a solid hook.
